All my life, I have doodled in every scrap of paper I find. For a while I even wanted to be an illustrator for children’s books. I read or hear a story, and start sketching ideas, which I iterate and refine them later.
I always start drawing by hand, with pen or pencil, and then I use watercolors, acrylic, or move on to digital media, like Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator, depending on what I will use the illustrations for.
This is a small drawing (about 20×20 cm) I made inspired on “alebrijes”. Alebrijes are highly detailed, brightly colored Mexican folk art sculptures of fantastical creatures. If you want to see the ones that inspired me, check out the Jacobo y María worskhop
